To find effective treatment for COVID-19, researchers have started studying older drugs approved for other infections or diseases. One recent drug of interest is ivermectin, a drug typically used to treat patients with parasitic infections (e.g., roundworm). This report looks at the evidence regarding ivermectin to treat patients with COVID-19 infections. While some lab studies have shown ivermectin to be a promising treatment, it’s hard to know how well ivermectin works in patients because the included studies were not done well (i.e., they were of low quality). This report did not find any evidence on cost-effectiveness or any relevant guidelines.
